Jefferson County Garbage & Recycling Facilities

Current hours, accepted-material notes, and self-haul pricing for Jefferson County solid waste sites. The details below reflect the county's adopted 2026 fee schedule and the facility information published by Jefferson County Solid Waste.

Jefferson County has noted garbage and recycling changes beginning April 1, 2026. Recycling-only loads at either site will cost $20 after that date. If you bring trash and recycling together in the same trip, you will only be charged for the trash and there will be no additional recycling fee on that load.

Port Townsend Transfer Station

  • Hours: Tuesday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Accepts: Self-haul garbage, county recycling, and yard waste
  • Best for: Larger loads, transfer-station dropoffs, and yard waste.

Quilcene Drop Box

  • Hours: Thursday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Accepts: Household garbage and county recycling
  • Does not accept: Yard waste or construction materials

Jefferson County Compost Facility

  • Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; closed holidays
  • Use: Compost product sales only
  • Important: Closed to the public for dumping. Call ahead for current product availability.
Verify rates before hauling a large load. Beginning April 1, 2026, recycling-only loads at either site will cost $20. To avoid that fee, bring recycling and trash together in the same trip so you are only charged for the trash.

Effective April 1, 2026

  • Recycling-only loads: $20 at either site if you bring only recycling materials.
  • Trash and recycling together: You will only be charged for the trash. Recycling brought on the same trip remains free.
  • Best way to haul: Combine your trash and recycling in one trip when possible so you avoid the recycling-only fee.
