Jefferson County Garbage & Recycling Facilities

Transfer Station Quilcene Compost
  • Port Townsend Transfer Station: Tue-Fri 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Sat 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Quilcene Drop Box: Thu-Fri 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Sat 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • What each site takes: Port Townsend handles garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Quilcene is for household garbage and recycling only.
  • Port Townsend Fees: Port Townsend garbage is $191 per ton with a $20 minimum up to 220 lbs.
  • Quilcene Fees: One 32-gallon can $10; two 32-gallon cans $20; loose garbage up to 1 cubic yard $38.
  • Upcoming change effective April 1, 2026: Recycling-only loads at either site will cost $20. If you bring trash and recycling together in the same trip, you will only be charged for the trash and recycling will remain free on that load.

  • Posted rate change: Effective June 1, 2026, rates increase to Zone 1: $330, Zone 2: $470, Zone 3: $605.
  • Notes: Requests under 500 gallons are generally cost-prohibitive. Extra time, longer hose runs, difficult access, or special handling may add charges.
